“Come, dearie, taste the apple!”
Well, I’m offering you a little taste of one of the amazing fruits of my summer! This one happens to be a poison apple, (so beware!) but there are a lot of good and scrumptious fruits to share too! I hope you, too, have been savoring memories and flavors from the long summer days. As the seasons begin to turn, I’d like to give you a glimpse of three of my very special family events this summer … and then also give a few hints about what’s on the menu this fall!
Can you guess what show we filmed this August with my grandnieces/nephews in Michigan? This year, our goal was to work with a simple fairy tale, and to bring it to life woven together with some of our own family stories. It turns out I had exactly 8 young ones that were ready to partake: that means one Snow White and seven Dwarfs (ages 3-16!) Seriously, entering into the magic land of fairy tales with my family is such a gift of playful co-creation that fills me with joy!
This story of Snow White is an hour long, so a bit of a commitment. But if you have any littles in your life, I bet they would enjoy watching the story unfold with you! “Come, taste the apple!” And below, I’ll share a few more stories!
Celebrating My Sister
My sister, Julie Beckman, has been my longest-time collaborator in life! A seasoned theater director, Julie was honored this summer by being inducted into the St. Xavier Arts Hall of Fame in Cincinnati. (It’s the High School Theatre where we both got our start!) And I was lucky enough to create the video to celebrate Julie’s long and illustrious career. You can check it out here, and delight in the magic of my sister’s creative journey! (She is also one of my main script consultants for our summer productions!)

In Closing
Nana’s 90th!
In July, my husband, Charlie’s mom (Toni) turned the ripe age of 90 … and that’s something to celebrate! For the first time ever, we had the whole Bommarito family out to Seattle to visit us at Martha Lake. What a grand weekend of festivities! We had such a magical time of honoring Toni’s life … (and since I lost my own mom 45 years ago,) I especially treasure the presence of Toni as matriarch of our Bommarito clan. My sister-in-law (with the help of AI) created this song/anthem in Toni’s honor, and with the visuals above, you can hear and see some of the fun we had!
Sending you many blessings for the harvest season ahead!
With love,
Betsey
